THE North West Aerospace Alliance is building relationships with industry organisations in at least eight countries following the Farnborough International Airshow.

During the show there were visits made to the NWAA stand from eight delegations made up of companies and cluster organisations from Australia, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Mexico, Canada and the United States.

The NWAA had a major presence at the show, occupying 450 sq m of stand space, with 49 member companies joining the organisation’s pavilion. The NWAA also had a representative of the government’s UK Trade and Investment body present who held meetings with other interested organisations from around the world.

This year, the Farnborough airshow attracted a total of 228,000 visitors, with $47 billion of business announced from 1,455 exhibitors from 44 countries.

During the event, the NWAA also announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Aéro Montréal, its sister organisation in Canada, which will see the two cluster groups working closely together.

Martin Wright, chief executive of the NWAA, said: “It’s exciting to see the work of the NWAA being recognised by aerospace sectors overseas in this way.

“The work we are doing in improving and developing the supply chain in the North West through our ASCE (Aerospace Supply Chain Excellence) programme translates very well to our foreign counterparts, and we had some great discussions with a number of delegates at the show.

“In the coming months, we have visits to Mexico and Canada planned to continue discussions with our counterparts there, and continue to grow the NWAA as a commercial body with expertise which is of value not just to the North West of England, but also nationally and internationally.”

The North West aerospace cluster is the largest in Europe and contributes more than £7 billion pound to the UK economy, accounting for one third of the UK aerospace turnover.

The North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) is the key industry organisation in the region, representing companies and organisations involved in the aerospace sector supply chain.
